ANTIQUE FLOWER HANDLE CABINET CUP AND SAUCER WILLIAM BROWNFIELD. This is a beautiful antique majolica cabinet cup and saucer made in the 1860s in England. It is made by William Brownfield. It has flower handle and the feet are formed from the leaf decorations on the cup. Exquisitely beautiful, registered design and impressed Brownfield mark as well as numbers that read 1811.
It is in very good condition despite its age. There are however a couple of stains to the edge of the saucer and a professionally done restoration to the back of the cup if you are to hold it with your right hand (see picture 4). It is hand painted over creamy white (See pictures) Almost 170 years old. A true treasure to add to any collection. Although the design is registered, I believe this was the only sample that was made at the time. The Arts and Crafts movement emerged from the attempt to reform design and decoration in mid-19th century Britain. It was a reaction against a perceived decline in standards that the reformers associated with machinery and factory production.
